God-Couples: Sacramental Marriage in Community

"The principle of discipleship and mentoring is seen in the relationships between Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy. The song of their lives, lived in community, teaches us that the light of the gospel is best borne together, by men and women who walk together and pour themselves into each other's lives."
 Michael Card

Commonly when a married couples does something to refresh their marriage—to put some pep into their relationship—they’ll find something romantic to do. The very idea of marriage enrichment conjures images of candle-lit dinners, Caribbean vacations and spicy lovemaking. Though all those things can be effective in rekindling a fire that has waned over the years, they may not be enough to sustain lifelong love.

An aspect of marriage that we don't put enough attention to is what married people experience as a marriage community. Marriage has a public dimension that feeds both society and the couple.

This presentation explores the ways Christian marriages build communities of support. It offers specific ways couples can be intentional about effective mentoring for marriage. It uses the Scriptural figures of Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy to illustrate three dimensions of marriage community. The presentation, which can be formatted for an evening, all-day enrichment, or a weekend retreat, addresses ways married couples can strengthen their relationship and their community through sacramental marriage.
